Some of my earliest childhood memories are of me drawing and painting. Anywhere I went as a kid, I was always taking my notebook full of loose-leaf paper in it to scribble on. I am the same way today. I've studied at Arkansas Tech University, Memphis Academy of Arts, St. Martin's School of Art in London, and East Texas State University.
During my studies in Texas, a friend started to call me Scribblehead, and the name stuck. I graduated from E.T.S.U. with a major in illustration/design and a minor in fine art. After graduation, I stayed in Texas. One holiday season during my "Starving Artist" years, I started to make handmade greeting cards to send out to my friends and family. I was on a tight budget and couldn't afford store bought cards. The response I got from my friends and family was so positive, that I decided to continue making my own greeting cards.
A friend of mine in Dallas suggested I try to sell these art cards at local card shops. At first I wasn't for sure. But I was eventually talked into it, and I'm glad I was. In 1991 a shop across from Fair Park named Putti's was the first place to start carrying my art cards.
The shop was the brainchild of jewelry designer Margaret Sullivan. I owe her a lot. She gave me a lot of encouragement and support. I then went shop to shop selling my wares. A year later with the help of a representative from New York, I had my greeting cards in shops and galleries all across America, in Canada, and Japan. Neiman-Marcus started carrying my line in all of their stores nationwide. In 1999, I decided to take my art cards online with a website.
www.scribblehead.com was born.
Each art card is handmade, hand painted, and hand sewn from original artwork-no two cards are alike. Each creation is signed on the back by me, and comes with a mini bio. I have a Peter Pan complex. I never want to grow up. All of my cards reflect that with brightly colored hues and childlike images of fantasy and whim.
By leaving the art cards blank on the inside, let's you express yourself with your own feelings-not mine. Have fun writing what you want to say without any restrictions. Keep visiting my web site. I will be continuously adding new and funky designs to make you giddy. I currently reside in an old house with a big garden and lots of kitties in Texas. I hope you enjoy your visit to my own little world, and I look forward to doing business with you.
